Sadio Mane lost the first game World Cup 2022 due to injury. Virgil van Dyke worried about the condition of his former colleague at Liverpool.
Mane suffered an injury two weeks before the start of the 2022 World Cup. The 30-year-old forward suffered a fibula injury in his left leg while defending Bayern Munich against Werder Bremen
Mane was eventually flown from Senegal to Qatar. Even so, the former RB Salzburg, Southampton and Liverpool forward will miss Lions of Teranga’s opening match of the 2022 World Cup, against the Netherlands at the Al Thumama Stadium, Doha, on 21 November.
This means that Van Dijk will not be able to duel Mane. As a former team-mate, the Dutch defender learned of Mane’s injury with regret.
“Of course I spoke to him (Mane),” Van Dijk said as quoted by the Mirror.
“I’m sorry for him, first of all. I’m not happy with that and I was once in a situation where I lost Euro 2020.”
“As players we have worked very hard to get to this stage and he has become an important figure in that group, for their country,” he continued.
Sadio Mane’s condition cannot be confirmed in Qatar. The striker with a record 93 caps and 34 goals for Senegal could miss more than one match at the 2022 World Cup.
