On Monday, an order took effect in New York City that requires almost all private sector companies to prohibit the presence in offices of personnel who are not vaccinated against COVID-19.
Workers at nearly 184,000 companies will have to verify that they have already received at least one injection by Monday. Companies that fail to comply could face fines starting at $ 1,000, although Mayor Bill de Blasio has said imposing penalties will be the last resort.
Employers must verify and maintain a record of each worker’s COVID-19 vaccination proof. Employees who have only received one injection should receive a second within 45 days. Businesses must post a sign stating that they are complying with the rule “in a conspicuous place”, as mandated by the city.
