Mandatory in Brandenburg: ▶ No access to school without a test (video)

Students are only allowed to go to an educational institution if they can present a negative test result. This can be a maximum of 24 hours old.

Prenzlau ·

Starting next Monday, elementary school students in the state of Brandenburg and thus also in the Uckermark will have to be tested for Corona twice a week in order to be able to take part in lessons. Those who cannot show proof of a test result that is not older than 24 hours in the morning are not allowed to enter the school. The student and teacher test should not be taken on consecutive days per week. In exceptional cases, if students have forgotten to take the test, it can be carried out at the school (with parental approval).

How such a test, which the students are given free of charge, works at home can be seen in a video. According to the Potsdam Ministry of Education, the self-tests can be carried out by private individuals without any prior medical knowledge. Antigen self-tests with a sample taken from the front nasal area (1.5 centimeters) are used in schools. The result is available after about 15 minutes.

“The majority of antigen self-test results are correct, but self-tests are not as reliable as PCR tests. A positive result with a suitable antigen test initially indicates a suspicion of a SARS-CoV-2 infection. However, it is not yet a diagnosis of a SARS-CoV-2 infection. The diagnosis is only made through the subsequent PCR test and the medical assessment, ”says a press release.

What to do if the rapid test is positive?

The investigation must be carried out immediately in a test center or with the family doctor. Only if the PCR test is also positive is there actually a proven SARS-CoV-2 infection. Until the results of the PCR test are presented, those affected go into quarantine at home.

Two million self-tests

At the beginning of April 2021, more than two million self-tests were initially distributed to schools in public and private sponsorship, another similarly large delivery will follow in May 2021.

Secondary schools, on the other hand, are closed again for the time being. Pupils from secondary schools, comprehensive schools and grammar schools must study at home to protect against the coronavirus. The pupils in the final grades of grades 10 and 12 (grammar school) and 13 (comprehensive school and vocational grammar school, second educational path) as well as in the last year of training of the respective vocational course attend the school alternating distance and face-to-face lessons (alternating model).
