Mandarin Oriental Zurich: This is how Chef Guida cooks

Guida can also do breakfast. Antonio Guida’s second restaurant “Mandarin Garden” is also well attended for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The “Oriental” breakfast? Not for calorie counters, wonderfully unhealthy. There are also shashuka, baba ganoush, (rice) noodles and soy milk, but the highlight on offer is a veritable cake buffet with various XXL croissants, with carrot, apple and lemon cake, and strawberry danish. Chef Guida quickly stops by and presents me with “La Veneziana”, a wonderful pastry with cream “and a sugar cloud” on top. Worth a sin. The menu also attracts Milanese people to the house at lunchtime and in the evening: Club Sandwich, Burger, Ceviche di Ricciola with Tiger’s Milk, Costoletta di vitello alla Milanese, Turbot, Snapper. And of course: in autumn the truffle shavings fly over veal tartare, tagliolini, risotto or over the “Uovo in Camicia”; That’s what the poached eggs are called here.
