“Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez named World Team of the Year by Argentina at the 2023 Laureus Sports Awards”

Lisandro Martinez has been named World Team of the Year by Argentina at the 2023 Laureus Sports Awards.

Manchester United defender Martinez helped Argentina win its third World Cup title in Qatar last year.

Richa attended the awards ceremony in Paris on Monday evening, where she was joined by teammate Christian Eriksen, who was honored with ‘Comeback of the Year’.

Martínez is currently out with an ankle injury suffered in last month’s 2-2 draw with Sevilla and is expected to return during pre-season.

Martínez joined Manchester United from Ajax last summer following manager Eric ten Hag.

Martinez quickly became a fan favorite with his aggressive, driven and passionate style of play.

Lisandro scored his first goal for United in a 2-3 defeat to Arsenal in January and lifted the Carabao Cup trophy in February.

Martinez has formed a solid partnership with Rafael Varane, whom he faced in the World Cup final, but both players are currently sidelined by injuries.

Lisandro, who played in all but two of Argentina’s World Cup matches in the Middle East, did not play in the final, but played a major role in Argentina’s first win over Mexico after an opening group stage loss to Saudi Arabia.

Martinez, from Ajax, did not play in the final Group C match against Poland, but played in the round of 16, quarter-final and semi-final matches against Australia, the Netherlands and Croatia, respectively.

Martínez returned from the World Cup-winning ceremony to feature in matches against Bournemouth and Manchester City, and made 45 appearances for United in his debut season.
