Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire could make a summer transfer to Tottenham or West Ham, according to FootballTransfers sources.
Maguire has fallen out of favor at Old Trafford since Erik ten Hag took over the team last summer, and having slipped down the pecking order to such a degree that left-back Luke Shaw is now preferred in his natural role, he is ready to go out.
FootballTransfers understands that United are so interested in allowing the England centre-back to leave, that they will accept an offer in the region of £40m from their Premier League rivals.. Previously, it was thought that a deal of around £50m would be triggered.
A move to Tottenham is likely to depend on the presence of Brendan Rodgers at the London club next season. FootballTransfers previously revealed that Spurs are keen to sign James Maddison and Youri Tielemans.
Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot appears to be in the prime position to take over Spurs’ job at the moment, suggesting that Maguire will not be heading to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Manchester City’s Aymeric Laporte is another player that FootballTransfers understand Spurs are following.; However, Harry could still head to the capital, with West Ham being the other club interested in the 30-year-old, who Man Utd recruited from Leicester for £80m, a world record fee for a centre-back in 2019.
How much is Harry Maguire worth?
Although Man Utd are ready to accept a £40m fee for the centre-back, this is still a higher figure over his expected transfer value (xTV). According to our model, the England defender is only worth around £25m (28.5m euros).
Harry had a peak xTV of £52m (€59m) in January 2021, after which his valuation has steadily declined month-on-month.
Contracted until June 2025, his value has declined this season largely due to his lack of playing time under Erik ten Hag and would likely bounce back at a new club where he was given a regular chance. Tottenham or West Ham could offer him that opportunity.
