The English football club Manchester United has informed its supporters not to expect reinforcements in the player squad during the winter transfer period.
As reported by the website of the ESPN television station, the management of the “red devils” justified this with the financial rules of fair play. Rival FC Everton lost ten points in this season’s Premier League table in November for violating these rules, and Manchester United was fined £257,000 for a minor offense in July.
The Manchester club’s chief operating officer, Collette Roche, told a fan forum that United need to be “really disciplined” when it comes to spending money on new players in the future. “We don’t expect the January transfer window to be too busy,” said Roche.
According to her, Manchester United will primarily deal with players who are less used in January and will try to find opportunities for those who do not play as much as they would like. “We have always emphasized that we do not consider January to be the optimal time for deals and our player acquisition strategy remains focused more on the summer transfer periods.” Roche pointed out.
She reminded that in this 2023/2024 season, several clubs have already paid for violations of the financial rules of fair play, so Manchester United will have to behave prudently and disciplined. “We have to be careful to make sure we follow those rules. And we will. That means we’ll be really disciplined about spending going forward, with an emphasis on balance between income and expenditure.” stated the United official.
The Manchester club has already decided to send the Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek on loan to the German Eintracht Frankfurt after the opening of the winter transfer period. They will also want to resolve the situation surrounding winger Jadon Sancho, who was removed from the squad back in September.
