The return of Cristiano Ronaldo during the last summer transfer window delighted Mancunian fans, but is very expensive for the English club. According to British media, this Thursday morning, the recruitment of the fivefold Golden Ball blew up the payroll of the Reds Devils.
Manchester United carried out during the last summer transfer window an XXL recruitment punctuated by the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford. A return which delighted the fans and which already benefits Mancunians statistically. But this big comeback comes at a huge cost for Manchester United.
Indeed, the salary of Cristiano Ronaldo has increased the payroll of the Red Devils by 88.5 million pounds, or 105 million € in the first quarter alone. A big increase which is questioning the English press this morning.
“United’s payroll is soaring,” wrote the Daily Mirror this morning. “Is this money well spent?” asks the tabloid. The striker’s salary, which amounts to £ 550,000 per week or more than € 655,000, has pushed up the wage bill, ”writes the media. The same goes for the Daily Star, which headlines: “United’s payroll is on the rise” or the Daily Express which indicates that “Ronaldo’s figures are exploding.”
Recruiting Cristiano Ronaldo is obviously costing Manchester United a lot of money, but the Portuguese are doing it well, and not just through his goals. The sale of the five-time golden ball jersey has boosted the club’s income as announced by the same British media a few weeks ago.
