Manchester United reached the fourth round of the FA Cup without any problems on Monday. Despite several missed opportunities, manager Erik ten Hag’s team won 0-2 against League One club Wigan Athletic.
It was almost a miracle that Manchester United had not already decided the match in Wigan before half time. The English record champion had chance after chance, but several players were not focused. Striker Rasmus Højlund even missed in front of an open goal.
Remarkably, it was left back Diogo Dalot who showed his teammates how to finish a chance. The Portuguese scored the only goal of the first half after 22 minutes. He did this with a precise shot from the edge of the penalty area.
After the break, United’s attacking urge diminished, but coach Ten Hag’s team did find the net one more time. Bruno Fernandes himself earned a penalty and took advantage of that opportunity with a slider into the left corner.

Ten Hag keeps an eye on medals of honor in a changeable season
Thanks to the 0-2 win, Ten Hag and United continue to have a real chance of winning medals this season. The team has already been eliminated from the League Cup and in Europe. Also in the Premier League, the gap to leader Liverpool is already fourteen points.
Last season, Manchester United reached the final in the FA Cup, where they lost to Manchester City. In the next round, United will face either Newport County (fourth tier) or Eastleigh (fifth tier).
With Newport County or Eastleigh, United will face a favorable opponent in the last 32. This does not apply to Tottenham Hotspur. The draw showed on Monday that Spurs will face cup holder Manchester City in the next round.
