As usual, it has stormed around Manchester United after a tough start to the season. Sixth in the Premier League and jumbo place in the Champions League group stage is the result so far.
The pressure has thus increased significantly on head coach Erik ten Hag, who, however, seems to be sitting safely at the moment. But all is not peace and joy in the dressing room.
The Guardian writes that “a group of senior players” believe United’s poor start is due to ten Hag overtraining the squad in pre-season. Some players are described as having been as tired when the current season started as they were when the last one ended.
The newspaper claims that none of the players have voiced their concerns to ten Hag, who in turn is convinced that the players are prepared to make the sacrifices necessary for the team to be successful.
The Netherlands increased the intensity of training in pre-season in a bid to make United a title contender this season, The Guardian believes. This included, among other things, eight training matches and a twelve-day training camp in the USA.
United have been plagued by a number of injuries during the start of the season, while several players have been missing for other reasons. ten Hag, for example, has had to deal with the absence of up to 16 players at the same time during the autumn.
On Sunday, Manchester United face Everton away in the league game.
