Manchester United officially returned Jonny Evans who was loaned out to a number of clubs until he was last sold to Leicester City.
This certainty was announced via the club’s official website, Tuesday (18/7). Evans signed a short-term contract and was named to the team’s pre-season squad.
“Experienced defender Jonny Evans has signed a short-term contract to allow him to take part in Manchester United’s upcoming pre-season games in Edinburgh and San Diego,” said a statement on the club’s official website.
Evans is a product of the Red Devils academy and successfully penetrated the senior team in 2006. However, his career did not go smoothly at Old Trafford.
He was loaned out to Belgian League clubs Royal Antwerp and Sunderland before being sold to West Bromwich Albion in 2015. Three years later, Evans was recruited by Leicester City.
Evans decided to train in MU’s under-21 squad after his contract at Leicester ended at the end of last season.
His appearance in the training session for the Man Utd youth team turned out to be successful in impressing coach Erik ten Hag. The 35-year-old defender then accepted a short-term contract offer at Man Utd.
Evans was recruited to become a cover for Man Utd’s back line, which was often plagued by injuries.
Apart from that, the Irish player could also be an option to replace Harry Maguire, who is widely rumored to be leaving Old Trafford in this season’s transfer market.
