Erik ten Hag has recorded a narrow victory with Manchester United over FC Copenhagen thanks to a goal from Harry Maguire and a crucial save in the final seconds from André Onana. The defender and the goalkeeper were regularly the target of criticism earlier this season after mediocre performances.

After defeats in the first two games, against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray, the home win over the Danes was more than welcome for United.

Before the match, the death of club icon Sir Bobby Charlton was of course commemorated, including a wreath laying ceremony by Ten Hag. The match itself was not a tribute. The biggest chance in the first half belonged to the Danes, who hit the post to the relief of everyone at Old Trafford. Copenhagen also started better in the second half.

United keeper Onana made a great save from Lukas Lerager’s shot to prevent a dire deficit. It wasn’t until the 54th minute that United got their first big chance through Christian Eriksen. His effort was cleverly saved by Copenhagen goalkeeper Kamil Grabara.

Grumbling crowd

The grumbling home crowd saw another difficult match from the Ten Hag team, which only increased the joy of the opening goal. A deflected corner was reintroduced by Eriksen and headed in by the much-criticized Maguire, bordering on offside.

The 1-0 score gave Copenhagen more space away, which led to great chances for Alejandro Garnacho (saved) and Scott McTominay (wide). In the very last second, a stupid foul by McTominay resulted in a penalty for Copenhagen.

Former NEC player Jordan Larsson (the son of former Feyenoord player Henrik) didn’t shoot that bad, but Onana’s save was fabulous. This left the score at 1-0 for United, who crawled through the eye of the needle.

Real Madrid wint

In Braga’s characteristic stadium with the famous rock wall, Real took the lead in Group C through the Brazilian Rodrygo. After an hour of playing – who else? -goldcrest Jude Bellingham made it 0-2 with a nice shot from outside the box.

Since the Englishman joined from Borussia Dortmund last summer, he has scored in all three of Real’s Champions League matches, while the midfielder has already scored eight goals in nine games in the Spanish league.

For a moment the match seemed to be in the bag, but two minutes later, Madrid-born Álvaro Djaló scored the tying goal: 1-2. It didn’t help much.

Close victories Napoli and Real Sociedad

Napoli had a difficult time in the same group at Union Berlin, in the Hertha stadium because the Union stadium does not meet the requirements of UEFA. In the 65th minute, Giacomo Raspadori broke the ban on the advice of the Georgian Khvitsja Kvaratschelia. That was it in Germany.

In Lisbon, Braiz Mendez also scored the third match in the Champions League this season on behalf of Real Sociedad, just like Bellingham. Mendez did this after an hour of play in the away match against Benfica. It also turned out to be the only goal of the match.
