Manchester United must buy two ‘modern’ strikers who will be able to improve the quality of the team’s attack when Erik ten Hag begins his task of rebuilding the Red Devils squad, says Ralf Rangnick.
Rangnick will step down as United’s interim manager at the end of the 2021/22 season and has accepted the Austrian national team’s proposal.
However, he will continue to serve at Old Trafford as a club consultant and one of his initial suggestions is to increase the team’s attack power so that it does not depend solely on Cristiano Ronaldo.

Rangnick’s suggestion of signing two modern strikers will not necessarily mean that Ronaldo will be left out of United’s squad, although it remains to be seen whether new manager Ten Hag’s scheme will suit the Portuguese superstar.
Ronaldo has indeed been United’s main focus this season in terms of finding the net, scoring a total of 18 goals, which is more than a third of United’s 57 goals this season, which puts them in sixth place in the Premier League standings.
“Cristiano is not a centre-forward or doesn’t want to play in that position,” Rangnick said. “Obviously the club needs at least two new strikers who give this team more quality and more options. I wouldn’t even call him a winger.”
“Two strikers and a modern striker, it doesn’t have to be a winger. If you look at international football, not many top teams still play with two strikers. Mostly they play with three strikers or false nines.”
