Manchester United Legend Sir Bobby Charlton Passes Away at Age 86

Sir Bobby Charlton died at the age of 86 years. His death devastated the squad England world champions 1966 leaving one player still alive.

Charlton died on Saturday (21/10/2023). He is one of the greatest legends of the England national team and Manchester United.

The man who was born in Ashington on October 11 1937 managed to win 7 prestigious titles with MU, including the 1967/1968 European Championship title (Champions League). In the England national team, Charlton succeeded in bringing his country to become champions of the 1966 World Cup.

Charlton appeared in full when England clashed with Germany in the 1966 World Cup final at Wembley Stadium. Three Lions became champions after winning 4-2 in the extra-time match.

Before his death, Sir Bobby Charlton being one of two British veterans in the 1966 World Cup the remaining. Another person, namely Sir Geoff Hurst.

Hurst is not just anyone England National Team. He was the scorer of three goals against Germany in the final, including the controversial third goal of the Three Lions (the ball hit the crossbar and bounced down either over the goal line or not).

Hurst also expressed sympathy for Charlton’s death. This 81 year old man recognizes his teammate as a true football legend.

“Very sad news today. One of Sir Bobby Charlton’s true legends has passed away. We will never forget him and neither will the whole of football,” Hurst wrote on Twitter.

“A great colleague & friend, he will be greatly missed by the whole country outside of sport. Condolences to his family & friends from Geoff and [istri Hurst] Judith,” he concluded.
