Manchester United in Crisis: Coach Erik ten Hag Losing Support and Facing Critical Games

Manchester United is going through a very difficult time in England and ‘Sky Sports’ reports that coach Erik ten Hag “has lost the support of half the dressing room”. The Red Devils suffered their 10th defeat of the season last Sunday, against Newcastle, they are 7th in the Premier League and in the Champions League they are last placed in Group A, although they still have a mathematical chance of qualifying for the round of 16 at the end of the test. The atmosphere within the team is not the best these days and it seems the players are disappointed with the leadership of the Dutch coach. At the end of the game with the Magpies, the assistant, Steve McClaren, even had to tell the players to applaud the fans who had come to St. James’ Park to support them…

According to ‘Sky’, there are some footballers who remain loyal to Ten Hag, but morale in the Old Trafford locker room is bitter and many question the Dutch coach’s “robotic” working methods. Training is marked by long running sessions and footballers “say they don’t know why they are running”.

ESPN adds that a prominent group of players “privately raised questions” about Ten Hag’s drills as well as his “gentlemanly” tactics. The team has conceded more goals than scored in the Premier League and in the Champions League it has the second worst attack, with 14 goals scored in five games.

Ten Hag has tried to calm things down publicly, but it appears that internally his staff understands that some of the team’s stars “do not take criticism well”. The coach brought Lisandro Martínez – who is recovering from a long foot injury and is one of his biggest supporters – back to the dressing room, in an attempt to gather some support.

Manchester United faces a series of critical games in the near future, which could define the coach’s future at Old Trafford. Tomorrow they host Chelsea, followed by Bournemouth on Saturday, Bayern Munich in the middle of next week and Liverpool on the 17th.
