New York –
Manchester United will be led Ralf Rangnick until the end of the season. The Red Devils were apparently rejected when looking for an assistant to their new interim manager.
Manchester United appointed Rangnick as interim manager until the end of the season. Then, the 63-year-old will continue to work as a club advisor for the next two years.
Rangnick’s debut itself has occurred last weekend. Against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, Saturday (4/12), MU won 1-0 through Fred’s single goal.
Reported by the Daily Mail, Manchester United apparently have no intention of bringing Rangnick to Manchester. His former assistant, Gerhard Struber, was approached.
Stuber, who is currently coaching the United States Major League Soccer (MLS) club, the New York Red Bulls, was approached by MU last week. MU is said to want to duet him with Rangnick at the club.
Struber had worked with Rangnick at RB Salzburg. Now, the Austrian club is one of the creators of many talented players.
And the 44-year-old man rejected MU’s offer. Struber said he wanted to stay focused on coaching in MLS.
“There is a demand. It’s no secret about Ralf Rangnick, and we know that. They appreciate us very much and really appreciate it,” he told Sky Sports.
“At the same time, I already own New York, which also makes me look very hopeful to the future. Therefore, I don’t want to give up on New York overnight.”
“I have a long-term contract there, and still have a lot of goals with an ambitious team,” he said.
Gerhard Struber himself has experience coaching in England. He briefly led the Championship Division club, Barnsley, in the 2019/2020 season.
