Manchester United get a breather with a comeback in the second half and beat Brentford 2-1

MANCHESTER, England (AP) – Alejandro Garnacho scored with a brilliant volley and Manchester United fought back to beat Brentford 2-1 in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Argentina international fired home from an angle when he connected with Marcus Rashford’s pass after half-time.

This scoreline sparked the comeback with Rasmus Hojlund’s winning goal in United’s third win of a troubled season to give coach Erik ten Hag a break.

It looked set to be another disappointing afternoon for United and Ten Hag, who were visibly upset after Ethan Pinnock opened the scoring for Brentford in a controversial move in first-half stoppage time.

United defender Matthijs de Ligt had to leave for medical reasons after he started bleeding from the head following a collision near the start of the match. This left the home side one man down as Brentford prepared for a corner and Pinnoch headed over the line in the fifth minute of added time.

United responded quickly after the break and Garnacho scored in the 47th before Hojlund fired past Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken in the 62nd.

While Aston Villa closed the fight at the top of the standings and was one point behind Liverpool, the leader, after defeating Fulham 3-1. Brighton are three points behind with a 1-0 win over Newcastle.

In addition, Leicester came back from two goals down to beat Southampton 3-2, Everton beat Ipswich 2-0 and Tottenham scored three goals in eight minutes to beat West Ham 4- 1.

Reassembled

Spurs were down on the scoreboard after Mohammed Kudus scored in the 18th minute at the Tottenham Stadium, but they recovered with a brilliant second half.

Dejan Kulusevski tied the game in the 36th minute and after half time the home team took control of the duel. Yves Bissouma fired in the 52nd before Alphonse Areola added an own goal three minutes later.

Son Heung-min placed fourth after an hour of play.

West Ham were reduced to 10 men in the 86th when Kudus was sent off for pushing Micky van de Ven after a heated confrontation.
