Football star Cristiano Ronaldo has criticized the owners of Manchester United. “The owners of the club, the Glazers, don’t care about the club, about professional sport,” the 37-year-old Ronaldo said in a clip from his sensational TV interview with British presenter Piers Morgan.

“Manchester United is a marketing club. Earnings from marketing. It will be tough for Manchester to get back to the top in the next two or three years.” the manager of MLS club DC United.

Ronaldo stressed that Rooney ended his active career before him. “I still play at a high level,” he said, looking at Rooney, “I’m not saying I look better than him, but that’s the truth.”

“People like that aren’t my friends anymore.”

Ronaldo equally sharply fired a shot at his former teammate Gary Neville, who is now a commentator on British broadcaster Sky. “It’s hard to accept criticism and negativity from the people you’ve played with. Take Gary Neville for example. People like that are not my friend,” said the Portugal captain. “It’s always easy to criticize. Maybe you have to criticize on TV to become more famous. I think they use (my popularity) for that.

The full interview from UK channel TalkTV will be broadcast in two parts on Wednesday and Thursday. Manchester United announced on Monday that they would first analyze all the facts before reacting. Ronaldo, who tried a move in the summer, appears to have no future at Man United after accusing the club and manager Erik ten Haag of “betrayal”.
