Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo | Reveals sensational Ronaldo effect in United team:

It is not just on the pitch that Cristiano Ronaldo has left his mark on Manchester United since he returned to the club, one would think teammate Lee Grant.

Ronaldo scored twice in his comeback as a Manchester United player on Saturday, and thus got a dream start in the United shirt.

But it is not only on the pitch the effect of Ronaldo is visible. According to reserve goalkeeper Lee Grant, he has also changed the United players’ eating habits after returning to the club.

The 36-year-old has long been known as a very serious athlete, and has thus also been very careful with his diet to be able to stay in as good shape as possible.

– Nobody dared

His new teammates at Manchester United witnessed this before the Newcastle match this weekend.

– Usually when we eat dinner together on a Friday we end with something sweet. A little apple cake, a brownie and cream or something else, Grant says Talksport.

Friday night, when the team was gathered before the league match against Newcastle for dinner, it was different.

– No one dared to touch the apple pie and the custard, not a single player went and got a brownie. Everyone sat still and one of the guys asked me: “What does Cristiano have on his plate”?

Grant says that Ronaldo’s plate consisted only of healthy foods, which also affected his teammates.

– Not a single player dared to go and get some of the junk food that was offered, it was crazy to see, he says.

– This guy is in incredible shape. He actually has the second best body behind me now in the club – and that says something, so well done by him, Grant says with a twinkle in his eye.

– A joke

Ole Gunnar Solskjær was asked about this during Monday’s press conference ahead of the Champions League meeting with Young Boys. He believes the difference is not as great as Grant claims.

– It was obviously a joke by Granty. It’s not like we only ate junk food before he came, and that he has changed everything.

But he still believes that Ronaldo can be a good role model for his teammates when it comes to taking care of his own body.

– He has of course proven how to take care of himself, and I think he will be an example for many players on how you can extend your career. When I look back on my career, it was the best time of my life. So you want to play as long as you can, says Solskjær.

At the press conference, Solskjær also talked about the expectations for the new Champions League season. He has greatly strengthened a team that this autumn will try to do better than last year, when the team smoked out in the group stage. But that is not necessarily enough for United’s Norwegian manager.

– For me, the goal is to go all the way. We know it will be difficult, it always is. But we have added some experience and quality to the squad, and hopefully we are better prepared this year, says the Norwegian.

Manchester United’s match against Young Boys in the Champions League starts on Tuesday night at 18.45.
