Former Real Madrid president Ramón Calderón has admitted that Los Blancos will have a difficult time signing Erling Haaland in the next transfer window.
Haaland will enter the market this summer as arguably the most in-demand player in world football. The 20-year-old, who announced himself at RB Salzburg, has caused a sensation at Borussia Dortmund since his December 2019 signing. As such, Madrid as well as Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City have great interest.
Reports have revealed that the forward will have a 75 million euro (£ 64 million) release clause from the summer of 2022.
However, in an attempt not to lose talent, clubs may wish to pay the extra before the start of the next season. In fact, a move this summer for the Norwegian would likely cost more than £ 100 million.
United, Chelsea and City could well afford Haaland this summer, but according to Calderón, who remains linked to what is happening at Madrid, his former club will not have the finances to compete.
“There are always rumors at this time of the season,” the 69-year-old told talkSPORT.
“They are talking about Mbappé, Haaland… too many players.
“We are not in the best shape financially because we are renovating our stadium spending a lot of money.
“It will be difficult to spend money in the summer.
“We always try to sign good players, we have been doing it for years.”
Madrid has suffered severely from the economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic during the last 12 months.
City owners may well finance a deal for Haaland, while Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has reportedly made it his ‘personal mission’ to land the shooter.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has previously warned that his team may not be able to spend much in the coming months.. However, reports (Manchester Evening News) have indicated that he has made Haaland his main forward target.
Man Utd seeks deal for Wolves star
In addition to Haaland, Wolves winger Pedro Neto is a target for United.
The 21-year-old has become one of his club’s star players in a rather depressing season for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men.
Furthermore, reports indicate that the Red Devils have a secret weapon to lure the Portuguese forward to Old Trafford.
