Bad performance Dayot Upamecano when slaughtered Manchester City subjected to attacks, including racially abused ones. Bayern Munich also raised his voice.

Bayern brought home a 0-3 defeat from City headquarters at the Etihad Stadium, Wednesday (12/4/2023) early morning WIB. Rodri opened Man City’s goal faucet in the first half. Two goals for the home team were scored by Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland in the second half.

Bayern really performed badly in that match, especially in defense. Upamecano is one of the players highlighted for his performance on the field.

The French defender failed to make a tackle for 90 minutes and won only one aerial duel. He even only got a value of 4.9 by the Whoscored site, the lowest among other players.

Even Upamecano was the culprit for City’s second goal in the 70th minute when he lost the ball in his own half and allowed Erling Haaland to easily net Yann Sommer.

This action made Upamecano the target of fury by Bayern fans on social media. Upamecano received not only criticism, but also racial insults, such as emojis and comments that made fun of his skin color.

This annoyed Bayern while emphasizing that the club and players fully support Upamecano.

“Everyone at FC Bayern categorically rejects racism in any form. We all support you, Upa,” Bayern said in a statement on their Instagram account.

Apart from the club, several players and coaches also cheered Dayot Upamecano after the racist attacks.

“It’s disappointing for Upa, but there is a reason why he plays for a club like Bayern. We believe in his extraordinary qualities,” said Bayern midfielder Joshua Kimmich.
