Manchester City seem to dominate Southampton. When the game was over, the Citizens won 4-0.
In the match that took place at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday (8/10/2022) WIB night, City were leading by two goals in the first half thanks to Joao Cancelo and Phil Foden. Two more goals in the second half from Riyad Mahrez and Erling Haaland.
The addition of these three points puts City temporarily at the top of the Premier League standings with 23 points from nine games, two points clear of Arsenal who face Liverpool tomorrow night. Southampton are in 16th place with seven points.

The course of the game Manchester City-Southampton
City started right after kick-off and nearly scored a goal in the first minute. Riyad Mahrez picked up a Joao Cancelo cross on the right and shot on goal that Gavin Bazunu could save.
The ball threw up at Phil Foden’s feet, but he was in a position with his back to the goal, so the ball was easily saved by Bazunu.
City did not give Southampton the opportunity to develop the game and continue to press on the opposing defense. Haaland came close in the 14th minute when he received a Phil Foden cross from the left.
Haaland chasing the ball was able to cheat it, but the ball hit the post. City’s efforts to score a goal finally materialized in the 20th minute with Joao Cancelo.

Foden dribbled from the center before feeding Cancelo who rose from the left. Cancelo enters the box and outwits his goalkeeper, before throwing the ball into the center.
Bazunu made a brilliant save when he blocked Foden’s golden opportunity coming in from the right of the Southampton defense in the 30th minute.
Bazunu’s goal fell again in the 32nd minute after Foden listed his name on the scoreboard. Kevin De Bruyne did a solo run through the middle to pass the ball to Foden who is to the left of him.

Foden holds the ball for a moment before pushing it over Bazunu’s cross. Southampton are dead and were unable to create chances during the first half.
Only at the end of the normal minutes, Southampton threatened with Stuart Armstrong who fired a shot from outside the box but floated nonetheless. City ended this round with a 2-0 lead.
The second half lasted only four minutes, City scored the third goal with Mahrez. The Algerian sprints from the right to collect Rodri’s cross and finish it at the far post of Bazunu’s goal.

Haaland tried to score in the 57th minute when he received a cross from De Bruyne, but was unable to keep the accurate shot as it was interrupted by Mohammed Salisu.
Haaland finally scored in the 65th minute and City took the lead 4-0. Haaland easily cheated Cancelo’s cross from the left to break through Bazunu’s goal.

Subsequently, the pace of the game was relatively slow and no goals were created until the end of the Manchester City vs Southampton match.
