Manchester City have said Pep Guardiola’s contract is “under scrutiny”.
The 51-year-old’s contract expires next summer and he has always refused to answer whether he will renew his contract with the club.
Guardiola said “the decision will be made with the club when it should be made.”
“I have said many times that the club and I feel happy together.”
Guardiola is expected to return to Spain for a short break as the English Premier League shuts down after weekend games due to the World Cup finals.
This looks to be the right time for him to set up his future at Manchester City.
After a brief training period, Guardiola is expected to take his players, who are not interested in the World Cup finals, to Abu Dhabi for a short training camp early next month.
There would be an opportunity for him to speak with the club’s president, Khaldoun Al Mubarak, and its owner, Sheikh Mansour.
This is Guardiola’s seventh season at Manchester City. He has won the English Premier League four times and the National Cup five times.
The European Champions League remains the only title he escaped. But he feels comfortable in the club, because he has managed to build an outstanding team.
When someone asks him what motivates him to keep working, he replies that he “likes” what he’s doing.
“There are times of stress and tension. You can’t always win, you can’t always be happy, things don’t always go your way.”
“It’s not about results in 6 or 7 years, it’s about feeling comfortable here.”
