Manchester City winger Oscar Bob has broken his ankle and is out.
The 21-year-old sustained the injury during training on Wednesday and will undergo further tests to determine the full extent of the injury.
Manchester City hope to have the Norway international back on the pitch by the end of 2024, but initial tests suggest the injury is not a serious setback.
He was expected to start for City in their opening Premier League game against Chelsea on Sunday.
Bob, who joined City from Norwegian side Valerenga in 2019, made his Premier League debut in September 2023 and has established himself in Josep Guardiola’s first team.
The winger has started all five of City’s pre-season friendlies, scoring against Celtic and Chelsea.
He started his side’s Community Shield win over Manchester United on 10 August and assisted City’s equaliser.
After the match, Bernardo Silva, scorer of City’s 89th-minute equaliser, said of Bob: “I don’t think he’s made any progress in the summer. He’s the same.
“Unfortunately, last season he didn’t play as many minutes as he probably would have liked to play last season, but if you were training you could see the level he’s at.
“I admire him a lot for his training, his intensity in the game and the joy he brings to the game. He deserves everything he is getting now.”
