Manchester City Make History with Treble Win in Champions League Final Against Inter Milan

WHAT HAPPENED?

Manchester City won the European Champions League for the first time in their history on Sunday (11/6), beating Inter Milan 1-0 in the final thanks to Rodri’s only goal.

The best chance of the first half at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium fell to Erling Haaland, who shot it right at Andre Onana in the 27th minute. Nine minutes later, Man City received a hard blow because they had to continue the match without the injured Kevin De Bruyne hamstring. He was replaced by Phil Foden.

Inter appeared more promising in the first half, blunting Man City’s notorious attack. However, Simone Inzaghi’s own team also could not create clean opportunities.

Defense Nerazzurri it was still tough in the second half, and this time it even made the hearts of the Man City fans race when Lautaro Martinez almost opened the scoring in the 59th minute. Luckily Ederson made a brilliant save.

Lautaro’s failure had to be paid dearly. Rodri became the first player in Manchester City’s history to score in a European Champions League final, breaking the deadlock in the 68th minute. Inter Milan almost leveled in the 88th minute, but Romelu Lukaku’s header from super close range was kept out by Ederson. Pep Guardiola looks relieved.

Like Emiliano Martinez for Argentina in the World Cup, Ederson made a vital save in the ‘bloody’ seconds of the match. He blocked Robin Gosens’ header in the 90+5th minute, and a few seconds later the final whistle sounded and Man City became European champions!
