Manchester City escaped another loss of points in the Premier League on Wednesday. The reigning national champion turned a deficit into a victory against Everton: 1-3. Noni Madueke gave Chelsea a welcome victory.

Manchester City visited Everton as brand new world champions, but it was the home club that surprisingly took the lead at Goodison Park after half an hour of play. After a mistake by Rodri, Jack Harrison rounded off: 1-0.

Manchester City continued to dictate the game and only got rewarded after the break. Phil Foden brought the visitors level with a dry shot and Julián Álvarez converted a penalty. The final score went to Bernardo Silva, who outsmarted goalkeeper Jordan Pickford with a marker.

With the victory, Manchester City continues to follow in the footsteps of leader Liverpool. ‘The Reds’ have five points more than the defending champions, although they have also played one more match. Arsenal can become the new leader in the home match against West Ham United on Thursday.

At Manchester City, Dutch international Nathan Aké completed the ninety minutes as a left back. Arnaut Danjuma arrived at Everton ten minutes before the end, but could not make the difference for his team.

Chelsea seemed to be losing points again at home against low-flying Crystal Palace. Mykhailo Mudryk opened the score at Stamford Bridge after thirteen minutes of play, but at halftime it was already 1-1 thanks to Michael Olise.

In the last minutes of regular playing time, Madueke secured the three-pointer for the home team. The substitute scored a penalty, which the referee only awarded after an intervention by the VAR. From 11 meters the attacker made no mistake.

The victory over Crystal Palace is a big boost for Chelsea. The team lost at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, which was the fourth away defeat in a row. As a result, the grumbling around manager Mauricio Pochettino’s team increased considerably.

For Ian Maatsen it was an evening to remember. The former PSV youth player made his starting debut at Chelsea as a left winger. After about an hour of playing he made way for Romeo Lavia.

Brentford goalkeeper Mark Fleken had a tough evening against Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Dutch international scored no fewer than four goals against the English mid-table (1-4) and is therefore in free fall in the rankings.
