Manchester City defeat Real Madrid 4-0 in the second leg semifinal match Liga Champions at the Etihad Stadium, Thursday (18/5) early morning Indonesian time.
The Citizens started the match with the initiative to lock up the opponent. Madrid was left depressed and undeveloped, while Man City continued to generate opportunities.
Rodri had the opportunity to score when the match entered the eighth minute. Then followed Erling Haaland’s header in the 13th minute which Courtois was still able to block and David Alaba was quickly cleared out.
Six minutes later it was Kevin De Bruyne’s turn to kick, which was still sideways from the Madrid goal.
Courtois made another brilliant save when he was saved from responding to a Haaland header in the 21st minute.
Failure after failure did not make Man City deadlocked. In the 23rd minute, De Bruyne’s through ball found Bernardo Silva in the penalty box. Silva’s left foot shot from inside the penalty box conceded Man City’s goal.
Madrid, who had trouble getting the ball into Man City’s game area, slowly started trying to appear bolder. Los Blancos’ first ripe opportunity came to Toni Kroos in the 35th minute. The old midfielder’s kick made the ball hit the crossbar.
Two minutes later the Etihad Stadium stands roared again as they welcomed Silva’s goal, who this time headed the rebound from Courtois’ save.
Silva and Haaland failed to finish their chances at the end of the first half so Man City only went 2-0 up before halftime.
Five minutes into the second half, Madrid threatened through Alaba’s free kick which Ederson was still able to push over.
Madrid tried to get up from behind and tried to attack diligently. However, Karim Benzema and his friends had difficulty penetrating the Manchester Blue defense.
Haaland had the opportunity to add to Man City’s advantage in the 73rd minute, but Courtois was again in the way of the Norwegian bomber.
Three minutes later a goal came again for Man City, it’s just that the one who scored was Madrid defender Eder Militao who failed to properly anticipate a dead ball situation.
Madrid, who were trying to score a goal back, met Ederson’s dexterity under the bar who saved from Benzema and Vinicius Jr.’s efforts in the 83rd minute.
In the first minute of injury time, Man City added to the lead through Julian Alvarez who took advantage of a counterattack situation.
The 4-0 score made Man City 5-1 ahead of Madrid on aggregate so that the Premier League champions had the right to appear in the final against Inter Milan who beat AC Milan in another semifinal match.
