Manchester City beats Real Madrid 4-0 to qualify for the 2022/2023 Champions League final

(CNN Spanish) — Manchester City of England beat Real Madrid of Spain on Wednesday and qualified for the 2022/2023 Champions League final after an aggregate score of 5-1.

This Wednesday’s game was played at City’s home, where the locals showed a clear superiority against Madrid to end the game 4-0 thanks to a brace from the Portuguese Bernardo Silva, an own goal from the Brazilian Éder Militão and a little more from the Argentine Julián Alvarez.

The overall result ended 5-1 after the first leg played at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium ended with a 1-1 draw.

With this, Manchester City will play their second Champions League final in the last three years, after losing the title match against Chelsea in the 2020/2021 season.

In addition to being City’s great opportunity to win the first Champions League in its history, it is also a revenge for Spanish coach Pep Guardiola, who last won this competition in the 2010/2011 season, when he directed FC Barcelona and whose star was Lionel Messi.

City will face Inter Milan in this year’s final, an Italian club they have never faced in the Champions League, according to the specialized site. Transfer market.

Manchester City vs. Real Madrid: summary of the second leg semifinal of the Champions League

Manchester City was completely dominant in the first 15 minutes of the match, in which they squeezed Real Madrid in their own field and created a clear chance to score after a header from the Norwegian Erling Haaland inside the six-yard box that was saved by the Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

At minute 20, Haaland had one more chance to redeem himself. After a return from a corner kick, the Norwegian finished off again with a header; however, Courtois stretched fully to deflect the ball with the fingertips of his right hand.

But City’s reward did not take long to fall: before minute 23, Silva took advantage of a ball in the area to make it 1-0 at home against the meringues.

Shortly after the first half hour of the match, the meringues began to play a little more with the ball and had two dangerous plays: first, a filtered pass from the Brazilian Rodrygo to the Frenchman Karim Benzema that was a bit long for the Madrid captain; and then a long-distance shot from German Tony Kroos that hit the crossbar, which meant the most dangerous play for Madrid.

Despite the efforts of the multi-time European champion, City’s gale continued and at minute 32 Silva put the second in his account and that of his team with a header after a rebound in the big area.

In the second half of the match, Real Madrid came out more connected and, in a free kick at minute 50, the Austrian David Alaba took a dry shot that the Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson sent into a corner kick.

After this opportunity, the minutes passed without a clear chance of danger for both clubs. However, City took the game where it suited them best: to a controlled ball situation, passing it multiple times through various areas of the field.

Another very dangerous play came until minute 72, when the German İlkay Gündoğan, City captain and team pillar, leaked a heel ball for Haaland, who again saw his goal frustrated by another save by Courtois.

Manchester City made it 3-0 at minute 75 thanks to a cross from a free kick that Swiss defender Manuel Akanji finished off and was deflected by defender Militão to add an own goal to his tally.

When everything seemed over, City scored one more goal to leave the final rout at 4-0 and the final result at 5-1. The last goal was from Álvarez, who had barely been on the field for a few minutes after coming on as a substitute before minute 90. The pass for Álvarez was from Phil Foden, who also came on as a substitute in the final minutes of the game.

In short, a clear checkmate for those led by Guardiola against Carlo Ancelotti’s pupils.
