A City statement said: “Manchester City Football Club refers to the verdict delivered at Chester Crown Court today, in which the jury found Benjamin Mendy not guilty on seven counts. The jury is hung on two counts and the trial has now concluded.”
He added, “As there are open matters relating to this case, the club is not in a position to comment further at this time.”
The Manchester Evening News reported that Benjamin Mendy will be retried on June 26 on the two remaining charges, and the trial is expected to last two to three weeks.
The Manchester City left-back was arrested in August 2021, following several accusations of sexual assault, committed by the player after his joining the English team.
It is noteworthy that Benjamin Mendy joined Manchester City in the summer of 2017 from Monaco for 49.2 million pounds sterling, and he last played last August against Tottenham.
