sport">It wasn’t until after the break that the difference was made. Benjamin Mendy put Manchester City ahead after almost an hour. The Frenchman hit after Leicester failed to get the ball properly out of his own penalty area. In the 74th minute, Gabriel Jesus made it to number 2. The Brazilian did so on a pass from England international Raheem Sterling, who had not been in the field for a long time as a substitute.
sport">The difference between the two clubs is now 18 points. Manchester United is still there, with 1 point more than Leicester. Nathan Aké, who had been injured for a long time, was on the bench at Manchester City.
Liverpool with a good feeling to Madrid
sport">Liverpool seems to be recovering from a lesser period in the Premier League. The champion won against Arsenal on Saturday, the second victory in a row in the competition. In London it became 0-3 for the formation of coach Jürgen Klopp. Liverpool is still 2 points behind Chelsea, the number 4 in the ranking.
sport">Diogo Jota gave Liverpool the lead in the 64th minute. The Portugal international headed in nicely after a cross from emerging right back Trent Alexander-Arnold. Jota, who scored for his country against Luxembourg a few days earlier, was just 3 minutes in the field as a replacement for Andrew Robertson.
sport">Shortly later, Mohamed Salah decided the game. The Egyptian was too quick for his direct opponent and pushed the ball over the line between the legs of goalkeeper Bernd Leno. Again Jota took care of the 0-3, after an interception by Alexander-Arnold and a quick play by Salah and Sadio Mané.
sport">Georginio Wijnaldum came in at Liverpool about 10 minutes before the end. He was spared in the quarter finals of the Champions League against Real Madrid. The first meeting is scheduled for Saturday.
Major slip Chelsea
sport">A big beating for Chelsea on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League. The team of Hakim Zyech, the number 4 in England, went down at home against the low-ranked West Bromwich Albion: 2-5.
sport">Chelsea did take a 1-0 lead through a hit by Christian Pulisic. Nothing seemed to be a sequel to a handsome series of fourteen duels in a row in all competitions without a defeat. But shortly after the goal, the second yellow card for Thiago Silva followed. Trainer Thomas Tuchel, who succeeded Frank Lampard’s dismissals in January, responded with a tactical substitution that cost Hakim Ziyech his place. With ten men, it went completely wrong for Chelsea in the extra time of the first half. Matheus Pereira scored twice: 1-2.

sport">Due to goals from Callum Robinson and Mbaye Diagne, the punishment of Chelsea took very strong forms. Chelsea could do something back via substitute Mason Mount: 2-4. But in injury time it was again West Bromwich that struck. It was Robinson who signed for his second goal of the afternoon: 2-5. It was Chelsea’s first defeat under Tuchel.
