Initially a librarian at Notre-Dame, then director of the Jacobins professional high school, Laurence took the reins of the Jean XXIII college and remained in charge of the Jacobins.
Why did you accept the challenge of managing two establishments?
It is a desire that is part of continuity. At the helm of the Lycée des Jacobins for around fifteen years, I have happily experienced the coherent evolution of the establishment specializing in tertiary professions. Particularly with its necessary move three years ago and its modernization in total phase with the training provided. Located next to the Jean XXIII college, the high school will offer an ambitious synergy. Mainly aimed at middle school students who wish to later pursue tertiary education. As a result, integration will be easier for young people who will opt for this choice in a sector of activity which is currently a source of employment.
How many students are under your supervision?
Not far from 900 students in total since at the start of the school year we had 200 children at the Jean XXIII school, 450 at the middle school and 240 at the high school. Concretely, it is possible to continue your studies from primary school to the vocational baccalaureate in two neighboring establishments. This is the big news in the last three years. We observe that the formula works rather well in the classroom since the student population has never been so large on the two sites. Remembering that it is not obligatory to come from Jean XXIII to be admitted to the Jacobins and that many high school students enrolled come from many backgrounds.
What are the strengths of middle and high school?
There are many of them in the two establishments that we wish to keep on a human scale. That is to say, close to the students with a listening educational community, personalized monitoring of young people but also a relationship of trust. Concretely, everything is implemented with the objective of students’ academic success. But beyond obtaining diplomas, it is about helping each personality to flourish while respecting common values. These are our main strengths which aim to promote the Jean XXIII college and the Jacobins high school. Communication is encouraged through constructive exchanges with students and their families, so that everyone can naturally give the best of themselves.
