Jakarta (ANTARA) – The transition of the season from cold to spring causes a number of people to experience seasonal allergies, such as those caused by the large amount of flying pollen.
This certainly causes symptoms that can interfere with daily activities.
Reporting from Medical Daily, Monday spring brings cooler temperatures and blooming flowers.

However, for seasonal allergy sufferers, the large amount of flying pollen in the period from February to summer is actually an unpleasant time for them.
According to Allergist and Immunologist Dr. Reenal Patel, seasonal allergies or what is known as allergic rhinitis affects nearly 60 million people in the United States. Of which 25 percent are adults.
According to him, seasonal allergies can affect the function of the eyes, ears, nose, throat and lungs.
In addition, allergies can affect a person’s mental status, such as feeling tired, headaches, skin pain and digestive tract disorders.
Meanwhile, signs that someone has seasonal allergies include a runny nose, blocked nose, cough, itchy nose or throat, watery and itchy eyes, sneezing, post-nasal infusion, swollen eyes, and fatigue due to sleep disturbances and difficulty breathing.
This condition is also very common in people who did not have any allergies in childhood. Thus, early diagnosis is essential to identify symptoms and take preventive measures that help manage symptoms resulting from seasonal allergies.
“If a person experiences any of the symptoms mentioned above at certain times of the year, it is best to undergo seasonal allergy testing. “Allergy diagnosis is often based on history, skin prick tests, and/or blood tests,” said Dr. Patel.
Dr. Patel said the first step that sufferers can take when they feel symptoms is to identify the allergen. After knowing the cause, sufferers are advised to avoid trigger factors.
If the triggers cannot be limited, the doctor may recommend an individualized treatment plan associated with many prescribed medications such as oral antihistamines, eye drops, and nasal sprays.
“We can also treat individual symptoms depending on how you feel. Long-term therapy such as allergy immunotherapy can be offered through allergy shots and sublingual drops or tablets. Talk to your allergist to get a plan specific to you,” says Dr. Patel.
Apart from identifying allergens, sufferers are recommended to shower before going to bed so that pollen does not stick to them while resting. Meanwhile, when doing activities outside, he advises sufferers to wear a hat and sunglasses, close the windows of the house or car and leave the air purifier on in the bedroom.
