WhatsApp users can now manage their contacts across devices. The developers of the chat program announce this on their blog. Previously, users could only add new contacts from their mobile phone by entering a phone number or scanning a QR code.
The numbers were not synced with the other versions of WhatsApp. That’s changing now. New contacts can now also be added in the browser version of Messenger on the PC or in the native app in Windows and are available on all devices.
Another innovation also concerns the storage of contacts directly in WhatsApp on the cell phone. These can now be saved locally on the smartphone independently of the phone’s address book. At the same time, WhatsApp synchronizes the contacts with the cloud.
This is useful for users who share their mobile devices with other people or manage multiple WhatsApp accounts for business and private purposes, write the messenger’s developers. The contacts saved on WhatsApp will be restored if you change devices or lose your cell phone.
In addition, WhatsApp will make it easier to manage contacts in the future by saving them according to the user’s name. This means that it is no longer necessary to provide your phone number to send someone a message. “Usernames on WhatsApp provide additional security,” write the developers.

WhatsApp recently released another innovation only for iOS users. On iPhones, WhatsApp chats can now be accessed directly from the smartphone’s home screen using a widget.
