Man with schizophrenia is stabbed by his brother in Santiago de Cuba – 2024-03-10 05:12:39

A patient with schizophrenia was stabbed by his own brother after he violently attacked his mother during an apparent mental episode that occurred in an apartment in the José Martí district, located in the province of Santiago de Cuba.

According to independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, the aggressor was identified as Ángel Luis Méndez Fonseca, who hit and pushed his mother, Mireya Fonseca, 75 years old.

The attack left the elderly woman with several injuries to her head and hip, which left her unable to walk. As if that were not enough, the man tried to threaten to kill her to prevent the victim from reporting what happened.

“What happened was that my uncle beat her and threw her, that’s when he broke her head and hip, now she can’t move. Afterwards she told him that if he said anything about her he was going to kill her and my father,” Naylet Méndez Garzón, the victim’s granddaughter, told the independent journalist.

A few hours after the incident, the old woman’s other son, Rafael Ernesto Méndez Fonseca, arrived at the scene to visit his mother, something he did frequently. While doing so, he came across the unpleasant surprise of seeing his injured parent, which made him angry.

The source indicates that the aggressor had a pin under his bed, and that he waited for his brother to approach to try to attack him with the weapon.

“My uncle had a pin kept under the bed waiting for my dad. My father took it from him and when he took it from him he took out the knife, and he wanted to attack him, and that was when he hurt him in self-defense,” says the old woman’s granddaughter.

According to the journalist, the elderly woman managed to receive medical attention and is in a cast without being in danger, while her son was operated on due to the stab wound he received from his brother, who was detained by the police while they carried out the operation. an investigation in the Micro 9 Police Unit.

The victim’s granddaughter is worried, because her father is the only support her grandmother has, and now he is detained for having defended himself. Additionally, she indicated that her uncle had not received treatment because they did not have enough beds at the clinic.

“My dad got tired of taking him to the clinic and it was always that there was no bed, and they said that something serious had to happen to be able to admit him,” said the source.

The shortage of medicines and medical supplies makes it difficult to treat many diseases in the self-proclaimed medical power, however, Some of the patients who suffer the most from this are those who suffer from mental illnesses.since they are incapable of continuing the treatments necessary for them to lead a relatively normal life.
