Man who was rescued from the water at Amsterdam beach died

The man who was taken out of the water at IJburg beach yesterday died in hospital, reports AT5. It concerns a 40-year-old man from Hoofddorp.

Last night, friends of the man sounded the alarm at around 6:30 pm, when after swimming for a while he didn’t get out of the water, writes NH News. Divers from the fire brigade searched the water with a police boat. A human chain was also made to find the man. According to a bystander, he was found after 25 minutes, after which he was resuscitated on the beach. He later died in hospital.

Earlier that day, a body was found near the water on the same beach. In the morning a swimmer discovered that someone was in the water. The person turned out not to react to anything anymore. According to witnesses, it is a young woman.

Because of these two incidents, Mayor Halsema decided to close the beach on IJburg, including the catering facility located there. “In the coming days we will take the time to look at safety there,” said a spokesman for the mayor.
