Man who filmed murder of unarmed African American himself arrested | NOW

William Bryan Jr., the man who recorded the murder of an unarmed African-American Ahmaud Arbery in February, was himself arrested on Thursday for suspicion of murder and the attempted robbery of freedom. That reports it Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Earlier this month, a former police officer and his son were arrested in the US state of Georgia. On February 23, they reportedly shot an unarmed African American man, 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery, while jogging. The shooting was filmed, and the footage sparked social unrest and anger among civil rights activists, politicians, and celebrities, as no one was arrested for a long time.

On the video can be seen Arbery running down a street and dodging a white pickup truck. Then a shot is fired and he struggles with a man holding a long gun. A second man, standing in the cargo space of the car, then fires two shots with a revolver.

The man who filmed the incident, William Bryan Jr., has now also been arrested on suspicion of murder. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, his arrest is linked to the murder of Ahmaud Arbery. Bryan has also been arrested for attempted deprivation of liberty. The other two suspects in the case are also still in custody.

They invoke self-defense. The two are said to have recognized Arbery as a burglar working in the ward and chased him to arrest him. However, Arbery’s family lawyer thinks they were out to shoot him and called his passing a “modern lynching”.
