Man who ended up in the canal with a vehicle is a 40-year-old driver of a transport company


The man who tragically died yesterday in a unilateral traffic accident in Nickerie is 40-year-old driver Roepeshkoemar (Widjai) Leda. The Suriname Police Force officially has that announced† His Facebook page shows that he often went live while driving.

An investigation by the Surinamese police has revealed that the driver, who worked for a bus company in Paramaribo, had dropped off passengers on the Adronweg, or the road leading to South Drain.

On his way back to Paramaribo, the driver, who was alone in the vehicle, must have lost control of the vehicle. He went off the road and ended up on the right shoulder.

The vehicle then ended up in the canal running alongside the road, with the fatal consequence for the driver.

The police of the Waldeck office received a report around 10 a.m. that a vehicle had entered the canal on the Adronweg and that the driver was killed.

The law enforcement officers came to the site for investigation. Roepeshkoemar was removed from the vehicle with the help of the fire service. The traffic victim showed no sign of life. A doctor officially confirmed the man’s death.

The vehicle has significant material damage to the front and has been seized by the police for re-examination. By order of the Surinamese Public Prosecution Service, the lifeless body of Roepeshkoemar will be handed over to the next of kin.

The investigation of this traffic accident has been transferred to the West Region Traffic Unit.
