The hunter who found the body of Jürgen Conings in Belgium is now suspected of stealing an automatic weapon that the fugitive soldier was carrying. Belgian media write that the man is also suspected of illegal possession of weapons and of sharing images of Conings’ body with German media.
Earlier this year, the Belgian authorities made a large-scale hunt for the extreme right-wing professional soldier Conings. He had taken heavy weapons from an army depot on 17 May and then disappeared without a trace. In farewell letters he threatened the virologist Marc van Ranst.
After a search of weeks, a hunter and the mayor of Maaseik found it separately soldier’s body in a forest. Conings had killed himself in the Belgian Dilserbos.
