Man who crashed into police car suspected of attempted manslaughter

The 30-year-old suspect from Zaanstad crashed into a police car up to three times with a van on the Muntplein in Amsterdam on Friday morning. Then he drove off, running over two police motorcycles that had been placed on the road to stop him.

In the police car were two officers, both of whom were slightly injured. A police spokesman said last week that the officers were “very shocked” and that they have suffered neck complaints, among other things. There were no drivers on the motorcycles.

Pepper spray

The van got stuck on the second police motorcycle and then caught fire. When officers tried to get the suspect out, pepper spray was used to arrest him. The man was slightly injured.

According to a police spokesperson, driving into the police car happened out of the blue. The motive of the suspect is still unknown. According to the police, there are no indications that the man had a terrorist motive or had used nitrous oxide.
