Manchester United appear to be happy to stick with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the time being despite reports suggesting Brendan Rodgers is the leading candidate to replace him.
Solskjaer is on thin ice at Old Trafford after overseeing resounding defeats to rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.
United sat in 6th place going into the international break after their 2-0 defeat to local rivals City added insult to injury following the 5-0 thumping by Liverpool.
The Red Devils board decided against sacking their beleaguered manager despite widespread complaints about the team’s results and performances.
The Norwegian gave his players the week off and flew back to Norway with his family.
But while he remains in place ahead of United’s trip to Watford this Saturday, Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has been installed as the bookies’ favourite to take over.
Rodgers is priced as short at 3/4 with Unibet Australia to be the next permanent Manchester United manager.
Rodgers, 48, would be a shock appointment given his three-year spell at Anfield, while his Leicester side are struggling down in 12th position in the Premier League.
However, the Northern Irishman has impressed at the King Power Stadium, guiding the Foxes to their first-ever FA Cup triumph last season.
He won seven trophies in three years at Scottish giants Celtic and was named LMA Manager of the Year for taking Liverpool to the brink of the Premier League title in 2013/14.
And former Bhoys striker Tony Cascarino believes Rodgers is the perfect man to replace Solskjaer at United.
“Brendan’s style of play and the way he manages teams would be a massive attraction – he had Liverpool for a period and they had an incredible side under Brendan,” Cascarino said.
“You couldn’t look at him and not think he deserves another opportunity of managing one of the clubs who could win the Premier League. Leicester fans will say they’ve done that before, but I don’t feel… the time Leicester won it in 2016, there were a lot of sleeping giants.
“Brendan would jump at the job, I know. He might say; ‘How do you know that’? Only because of his track record of taking a job when it’s offered to him. Leicester is not a job at the same quality as Manchester United.
“They are an incredible football club and they have done incredible things. They have got a good squad, as well, but the attraction of Manchester United is way superior for any manager.
“That opportunity is a once in a lifetime for Brendan and I think he would jump at it.”
Rodgers has a contract with Leicester until 2025, but apparently has a clause in it allowing him to leave for a Champions League club.
The rest of the betting field starts with Zinedine Zidane at 6/1, with Mauricio Pochettino at 11/1.
Zidane is out of work after leaving Real Madrid for a second time in May, but may fancy the chance to link up with old faces Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane in Manchester.
Zidane has never played or managed in the Premier League but has a glittering list of achievements on his CV including winning the 1998 World Cup and 2000 Euros with France.
As a manager Zidane won 11 trophies at the Bernabeu including three successive Champions Leagues and two La Liga titles.
He is the only person in history to win both FIFA’s Player of the Year and Coach of the Year awards and at just 49 years of age may fancy a crack at English football.
Pochettino would be a surprise given he is currently managing Paris Saint-Germain and has admirers from his spell at Tottenham.
