Man tried to kidnap three girls: police have a suspect

Leipzig – Large-scale operation of the police this Tuesday morning in Leipziger Northeast: A stranger had previously tried to kidnap several children there.

There were several emergency calls to the police around 6.45 a.m. Horrified parents informed the officials that a man in dark clothes was trying to bring children into his power near the Paunsdorf wood.
The police are currently aware of three cases in which the stranger ambushed the victims on the way to daycare and school. He is said to have tried to snatch the children away from their parents.
In all cases this failed due to the resistance of the parents. The police command immediately ordered all available forces to Paunsdorf.
In addition to police officers, riot police, detectives, search dogs and a helicopter crew were on duty.
The on-site measures were completed in the morning. The police may have found a suspect.

UPDATE, 3 p.m.: Operation continues
As the Leipzig police reported on Tuesday afternoon, the first indications of attempted child abduction had been checked. There have been initial interviews, but so far there has been no hot lead, said a police spokeswoman on Tuesday.
The operation is still ongoing.

UPDATE, 6 p.m.: He attacked three girls – police released description of the perpetrator
A total of three young girls, ages four and seven, had been attacked by the unknown man. The Leipzig police announced this on Tuesday evening. Two of the girls (both four years old) had just been on their way to kindergarten accompanied by their parents, the 7-year-old on her way to elementary school alone.
Only through the energetic behavior of the children, their parents and passers-by did the unknown man abandon his plans in all cases and flee. With an increased police presence, the perpetrator is still being searched for, and identity checks were carried out in the afternoon, as a result of which a suspect was finally arrested. A connection to a case on Tuesday morning is also being examined.
That morning an unknown man stopped a car not far from the Paunsdorf grove and urged the driver to take her away. When she refused the request, the man struck and fled. It is still unclear whether this is the culprit.
The police are still dependent on the help of the population and ask for information.

- sporty figure
- short, dark, wavy hair
- southern skin type
- well-groomed face / appearance
- black shoes
- black pants
- dark fleece jacket
Witnesses who can provide information about what happened or the man’s identity should report to the criminal investigation department at Dimitroffstraße 1 in Leipzig or by telephone on 034196646666. In addition, the Leipzig police advised only sharing the official information about the perpetrator.
“The criminal police is at the beginning of the investigation. Any misinformation in the public is likely to endanger the search and investigation success!”, It says in a press release.
