In August 2020 the boy was traveling with his family in Munich. It was his brother’s birthday, and the family had gone to Munich from the Salzburg region. “It was such a beautiful day,” says the child’s mother. The father looked into a shop, the mother stopped with the children on the street, where they were playing on concrete blocks. The defendant grabs the boy and throws himself in front of a car with him

At that moment, according to witnesses in court, Hans A. (name changed) grabbed the boy and threw himself on the street with him, right in front of a car. The driver can just stop, 1.70 meters separate her bumper from Hans A., who is still clutching the child.

“Drive us together” and “Drive the bastard together”, Hans A. is said to have yelled at her, say witnesses. The driver herself says something different: “Thank you for braking,” the defendant is said to have said when she got out of her car. The man looked directly into her eyes.

Hans A. stood in front of the onlookers almost like a preacher

The boy then ran to his mother, luckily he was hardly injured. Hans A. then stood in front of the onlookers almost like a preacher: “You can see how bad everything is,” he is supposed to have said and spoke of the bad energies in the room. When the police came to arrest him, Hans A. fought violently.

“My family is not angry with you”

The eleven-year-old boy testified in court yesterday. He just thinks of the incident “every now and then”. He bravely sits just a few meters from Hans A. while giving his testimony. But according to his mother, the incident has left its mark. “I think he’s worse off now than it was right after,” she says. He doesn’t want to go to school anymore. “Before that he talked a lot,” she says, “now he hardly speaks at all.” Nevertheless, the mother says to the defendant: “My family is not angry with you.” You know that he is not to blame for the matter. “I’m sorry,” burst out Hans A., “I’m so sorry.”

It is not yet clear why Mr A. grabbed the child and threw himself in front of the car. To many witnesses, he gave a confused impression, as if he had been on drugs. According to his lawyer Johanna Braun, her client had a drug problem, but in this case he saw the children playing on the concrete blocks and feared for them.

The prosecution believes that A. has a mental disorder

That’s why he grabbed the boy, then stumbled and rushed with him onto the street. The public prosecutor’s office assumes, however, that A. has a mental disorder, so he could be admitted to a psychiatric ward.

The mother hopes the process could help her son come to terms with what happened. The defendant’s apology, the mother said, could be of help to her boy. The process continues.
