The man suspected of opening fire in a cafe in Den Helder reported to the police on Tuesday. One person was killed and two injured in the shooting on Saturday night.
This is a 26-year-old man. The identity of the suspect was already known to the police, but they had not yet been able to determine the whereabouts of the man. He was immediately arrested on suspicion of involvement in the shooting incident.
The shooting took place around midnight in front of Café de Bierbron on Bassinggracht. Three people were injured, two of them seriously. One of them, a 25-year-old man from Alkmaar, died in hospital from his injuries.
The suspect is in full restraint. This means that he can only have contact with his lawyer. He will be brought before the examining magistrate on August 11, who will decide whether he should remain in pre-trial detention.
The cafe where the shooting took place must keep its doors closed. The municipality of Den Helder says that it had already decided before the shooting incident. The municipality has withdrawn the permits because there was a so-called sham management construction. The person who ran the cafe was not listed on the permit.
According to NH News the cafe had been closed before due to drug and gun violations.
