The man who was arrested yesterday after the fire in a parking garage in Alkmaar is suspected of arson. It is a 51-year-old resident of the city, reports NH News.
“Other scenarios are being investigated, but the fact that the fire was started is the most likely at the moment,” a police spokesman told regional broadcaster.
‘160 cars damaged’
According to the municipality of Alkmaar, 160 cars were damaged by the fire. Because of an electric car that was on fire, the fire was, according to an involved firefighter difficult to extinguish.
There were no injuries. The garage will remain closed in the coming days, including for investigations into the damage to the building.
The suspect is in custody.
