A 44-year-old man from Helmond who stabbed his mother to death in September last year has been ordered to undergo compulsory treatment for tbs. The court in Den Bosch decided that on Wednesday. The man stated during the hearing that ‘voices in his head’ gave him that order. The Helmonder already confessed his deed when he called the emergency number 112 shortly after the stabbing.
The man has psychological problems and therefore the public prosecutor demanded tbs with compulsory treatment. The judge went along with that. The suspect also has to pay his father and his brother damages totaling 37,500 euros.
Knipmes
The fatal stabbing happened on September 9 last year. The suspect had been ‘ordered’ to kill his parents the night before. The suspect had put a knife in his pocket, grabbed the bicycle and had cycled to his parents. In the house at the Lambertushof in Helmond, he stabbed his 68-year-old mother Ineke several times in the neck.
His father was not at home at the time. He had gone to a blood test and, upon returning home, found his injured wife, who died a short time later. Their son was arrested shortly afterwards. He still had the bloodied knife with him. There were blood spatters on his T-shirt.
Schizophrenia
Research has shown that the suspect was completely mentally insane when he stabbed his mother due to a psychosis. According to experts, he has a serious and chronic mental disorder. The man has no disease awareness.
He has a history of psychological problems. For example, schizophrenia had previously been diagnosed. He also uses drugs and was regularly involved in violent crimes.
Appropriate measure
According to the public prosecutor, tbs with compulsory treatment was the only appropriate measure in this case. The defendant’s lawyer also agreed with the demanded measure.
The sentence is in line with the wish of the shocked family. “In addition to sadness, there is also fear. The fear that the suspect will be released and complete his plan. The suspect had indicated that he also wanted to kill his father that Thursday afternoon,” the public prosecutor said at the hearing.
