The perpetrator appears to be a 40-year-old man and is known to the police. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese states that there is no terrorist motive. The man is said to have had mental problems.
Previously, reports appeared that the police were looking for a second suspect. But that’s not right.
On the casualties side, the toll is particularly high: at least 6 people were killed. Several people were also taken to hospital.
They are seriously injured or in critical condition. This includes a 9-month-old baby who was admitted with stab wounds. The baby’s mother is among the dead.
