“I thought I was still asleep!” He says excitedly on the phone. When Van der Mey wanted to approach the beast, it ran away.

On the way to work, he made another movie from his car. “After I recorded the video, the beast ran away. And I had to go to work. I don’t think anyone else saw it because I didn’t hear anything. But such a big beast should definitely stand out ”, thinks Van der Mey. An acquaintance of his tipped him off about earlier reports by the Haarlems Dagblad about a wild kangaroo, “but then I discovered that that was last year”.

People who keep small deer live in the vicinity of Van der Mey’s house. “But it seems strong to me that they also keep kangaroos, otherwise I would have heard it long ago. And that doesn’t really seem legal to me, ”Van der Mey suspects. “Someone else must have seen it too! It’s a strange story, ”he concludes.

Where the beast comes from and to whom the kangaroo belongs is still unclear. Various authorities, including the Animal Protection and the police, are unable to provide a definitive answer or are not (yet) available for comment.
