A Bronx man was shot to death in his driveway Monday night after someone knocked on the front door, New York City Police said.
The shooting occurred shortly before 6:00 p.m. Monday, according to police, at a house in Irwin Avenue in the Kingsbridge neighborhood.
The victim, a 43-year-old man, answered the door of his home and came face to face with his suspected killer, who fired after the door was opened.
Investigators were seen checking a doorbell security camera for possible leads, but no arrests have yet been made. Police were searching for the suspect while neighbors tried to understand the murder.
“I don’t know who does that, they ring the bell and they just shoot you,” said William Gruseo, who lives in the area.
The deadly shooting comes after a bloody weekend across the five boroughs in which 12 people were shot. It also came on the same day that the New York City Police launched a new strategy to reduce gun violence, when Mayor Eric Adams touted what he called the “Summer 40” plan.
He asks that the 40 most criminal precincts move hundreds of officers to the night shift, including 350 neighborhood coordinators. It also requires the installation of a designated inspector in each county.
“Our precinct commanders and officers will now have a clear understanding of what is expected of them,” Adams said.
