Man Shot Dead in Suriname after Causing Collision and Threatening with Shotgun

The man who was shot dead in Suriname last night was a moped rider who shortly before caused a collision on the corner of Gijsbertusstraat and Tourtonnelaan in Paramaribo. Then he would have threatened with a shotgun.

The moped rider, presumably a Brazilian, did not give way to a police officer in a car at the above-mentioned intersection. The two decided to settle this among themselves. At one point, the moped rider tried to leave but was stopped by a relative of the officer.

In the end, the man managed to get away, after which he returned a short time later with a shotgun. He threatened to shoot the family member with this. This person took cover behind a car.

The moped rider then walked in front of the Farma Vida store opposite Gijsbertusstraat. There he got into an altercation with two unknown men in a car. The moped rider held his shotgun aimed at the two men on that occasion.

In response, one of the men in the car drew a handgun and fired aiming at the moped rider. He was hit in the shoulder and head, with the result that he died there.

The case is still under investigation by the Surinamese police. The shotgun has been seized.
