– The police and AMK received many reports of disturbances at Birkelunden in Oslo. There were reports of banging and screaming. When we arrived, we were able to control one man who has what appear to be stab wounds to his upper body.

Operations manager Rune Hekkelstrand of the Oslo police told VG at 04:00, shortly after the police reported the incident on Twitter.

– The person was conscious and has been taken to hospital. He is seriously injured, continues the operations manager.

– What do you know about what has happened?

– That there has been noise and the like at Birkelunden. It apparently happened outdoors.

Birkelunden is a park on Grünerløkka, central Oslo.

Around an hour later, at 05:00, Hekkelstrand told VG that it is unclear whether it is a question of stab wounds.

– We cannot rule out that there are gunshot wounds, we have received information about bangs that could stem from shooting. We are now working to search for clues in the area that can tell us something about what happened.

The police are not sure how many people were involved in the violent incident, but have been told by witnesses that there must have been fewer than five people.

He also states that one man who appeared at Birkelunden when the police were there has been taken to the detention center for technical examinations – he has not yet been arrested or suspected.

– How many are you looking for?

– We are not looking for a specific number. We are working to find out what is concrete information and what is not.

The police were notified of the incident at 03:40.

In an update on Twitter, the police are asking for help from the public.

– If you have heard noise in the form of banging or screaming in Birkelunden around 0335 and have not spoken to the police yet, we want you to call us. We currently do not know how the victim suffered his injuries, they wrote shortly before 05:00.
